Upcoming ARISS School Contact – June 5, 2026

Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has received schedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact between an astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and students at two schools in France.  ARISS conducts 60-100 of these special amateur radio contacts each year between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses aboard the ISS.

The Henri Clement primary school (named after a Saint- Rémy WWII resistance fighter) is one of three schools in Saint- Rémy. With 136 students from preschool to fifth grade, the school was renovated in the summer of 2017. The school is supported by members of the Chalon-sur-Saone radio club (F6KMF), which is focused on promoting amateur radio among young people. This includes weekly “junior” workshops, projects with schools (launching and recovering stratospheric balloons, leading introductory electronics workshops, and establishing satellite contacts between schools and remote areas). The club also prepares adults for the amateur radio operator’s certificate exam.

The College Jorge Semprun, in Gueugnon, serves high school students ages 11 to 15 years old. Languages taught are English, Spanish, Italian and Latin. The school is also working with Ham radio club of Montceau-les-Mines (F6KJS) whose members are also supporting the school during this ARISS contact.

This will be a direct contact via Amateur Radio allowing students to ask their questions of astronaut Sophie Adenot, amateur radio call sign KJ5LTN. The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHz and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint that also encompasses the relay ground station.

Two amateur radio ground stations will be used during this radio contact, with one ground station located at each school (F6KMF at Saint-Rémy, and F6KJS in Gueugnon). Amateur radio operators using these call signs, will operate the ground stations to establish and maintain the ISS connection. Students will alternate asking questions, asking two at a time, between the two schools. Students at College Jorge Semprun, (F6KJS), will start the questioning.

The ARISS radio contact is scheduled for June 5, 2026 at 11:26:47 am CEST (France) (9:26:47 UTC, 5:26 am EDT, 4:26 am CDT, 3:26 am MDT, 2:26 am PDT).
