Talk to some kids as they start their exploration of ham radio!

Rachel Jones KO4HLC and members of the Amateur Radio Club of Columbia County (ARCCC) invite you to get on the

with some of the students they have been working with at Savannah River Academy.   As part of the HAM101 educational outreach program with Savannah River Academy, ARCCC, Inc. will be hosting Special Event Station W4Y from September 23-25, 2021. The HAM101 program is teaching the students about amateur radio in preparation for their upcoming ham radio contact with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station in December.  Savannah River Academy is located just outside Augusta, GA and has students from grade 1 through 8.   On Friday, September 24 from 8:30 AM until noon, we will be operating on site at Savannah River Academy to allow the students to get on the air and make some contacts with hams near and far. We will have HF stations operating on phone and CW. Go to https://www.qrz.com/db/W4Y on Friday morning to find a list of the frequencies that will be used.   They will also have a VHF station for students to talk to local operators on ARCCC’s 146.985 repeater, which can be reached via EchoLink.   This is a great opportunity to support the school and students, and to generate interest in the amateur radio hobby. The students have been practicing the procedures for talking on the radio and the phonetic alphabet.  Also, the students will be designing a QSL card for the special event station, so look for W4Y on the air so you can make a contact and get one of these special QSL cards!

Tnx @KD8COJ for the info!
